This February, holidaymakers taking flights to Gran Canaria could find themselves swept up in the revelry of the annual Maspalomas carnival.Taking place from February 7th – 17th 2008, the ten days of traditional Spanish festivities are sure to add an authentic cultural touch to the holidays of Brits taking flights to Gran Canaria at this time.A welcome parade will kick off events on Thursday February 7th ahead of a gala contest and dancing evening the following night.On the Saturday, holidaymakers will be able to enjoy a catwalk of all the carnival costumes while a concert will also take place that evening.Those on family holidays should not miss Sunday’s events, with a children’s party scheduled to be held at 4pm local time at Parque del Sur followed by an early evening gala contest for kids at 8pm. The diverse festival even hosts an evening dedicated entirely to drag queens, with an election and disco night taking place on February 14th ahead of the grand festival finale and main parade on Saturday 16th.
