The one-time capital of Brazil, Salvador, is hosting the Bahia Carnival this year. And this year, according to Bahia Online – it overlaps the Festa de Yemanja, described as “another enormous and highly important festival”.Describing the event as “not” the Rio Carnival – which features beautiful women high up on floats – the website notes that the festivities are made up of locals and visitors dancing in the streets “until you drop”.Taking place from Thursday January 31st until Tuesday February 5th 2008 music is a major theme of this carnival, with compositions provided by two distinct factions: Trios Electricos and the blocos.The theme for 2008 is Capoeira and the symbols for this year are Joao Grande and Decanio.According to Bahia Online, The Heart of the World Beats Here is the event’s unofficial perennial slogan.Sainsbury’s Bank recently reported that almost 12 million Britons will book a holiday abroad before the end of this February.
