EasyJet has crowned the winners of a competition to find Europe’s best Prince William and Kate Middleton look-alikes.

Simon Watkinson from London and Orsola Rossi from Milan triumphed in the contest, which invited entries from several countries across the continent.

Twenty finalists from more than ten European nations gathered in London yesterday (27 April), where they were asked to take part in tests including waving like a royal, acting out a romantic wedding proposal and throwing a bridal bouquet.

Mr Watkinson said he couldn’t believe he had won the competition, despite being told many times that he looks like Prince William, while Ms Rossi said it was ‘very exciting’ to be voted the best double for ‘one of the most famous women in the world’.

The pair will remain in London for the royal wedding celebrations and will also receive a year’s worth of free easyJet flights.

Paul Moore, the airline’s communications director, said: ‘The competition has been fierce, with hundreds applying to be crowned the best Will and Kate look-alikes Europe has to offer. Read more…

Prince William and his wife Kate will honeymoon at a luxury villa on an island in the Seychelles, according to Monday’s Daily Mail newspaper.

The newly-weds delayed their honeymoon, but will jet out later this month to spend ten days at a 4,000 ($6,700, 4,500 euros) a night retreat in the Indian Ocean archipelago, the British paper reported.

The 28-year-old prince’s protection officers reportedly visited the top-secret location to assess its suitability and were satisfied that the isolated resort would offer the required privacy.

The luxury wooden villa comes complete with an open-air bathroom, a private garden, a freshwater rock pool and a personal butler and chef.

A private jet will fly the newly-titled Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the main island from where they will take a helicopter to the unnamed holiday hideaway, the paper claimed.

William, who is a search and rescue helicopter pilot at a Royal Air Force station in the Welsh island of Anglesey, was forced to split the annual leave needed for the wedding and honeymoon and is due back at work on Tuesday.

A helicopter carried the couple away from Buckingham Palace on Saturday, a day after the wedding which was watched by an estimated two billion people worldwide, to an undisclosed British location for a “mini-moon”.

The royal family is thought to be prepared to take legal action to prevent any media outlet attempting to disrupt the couple’s main trip.

Meanwhile, The Sun reported that William was to travel to the Falkland Islands in September where he will serve for ten weeks without his wife.

The south Atlantic island group was the scene of a war between Britain and Argentina in 1982.

The popular hiking trail, also called Pu‘u Ma‘i Trail, runs along an old tram line on Koko Crater in East Oahu. It is closed for maintenance beginning at 5 am Monday (May 2, 2011), reopening Friday. During the closure, a 2,000 foot long steel wire cable will be removed. It currently runs the length of the tram’s track but is deteriorating and city officials say it is being removed as a “preventative safety measure.”

The photo above is the view from the top of Koko Head looking toward Hawaii Kai and Hanauma Bay. It was taken by Bruce Fisher, who recently hiked to the top, along about a thousand “steps”. The steps are rail ties in the track, which was built during the second World War for a tram that carried people and supplies to a lookout post. The hike is challenging. It begins with an incline, then a bridge where the rail ties and rails are suspended well above the ground, and finishes with a steep ascent that looks nearly vertical. My

Strong demand for travel to Mallorca has led British Airways to double capacity on its route from London City airport to Palma.

The current three weekly flights will increase to six services per week, operating every day except Saturday in July and August.

Furthermore, Friday and Sunday connections to Palma de Mallorca will continue until 31 October this year, meaning passengers can travel to the island during the school half-term holiday.

The introduction of additional services and larger aircraft means that BA will be providing more than 25,000 seats to the popular holiday island from London City over the coming months.

New routes to Faro in Portugal and Malaga in Spain are also set to be launched from the airport in June as part of the carrier’s drive to expand the range of leisure options available to passengers.

BA offers flights to a total of 12 destinations from London City, with cities such as Barcelona, Nice and Madrid also accessible from the Docklands base.

— The U.S. State Department has broadened its travel warning for Mexico, advising citizens to avoid certain areas and steer clear of driving at night.

The new alert, issued late last week, urges Americans to defer nonessential travel in regions where drug-related violence has surged, including the border state of Tamaulipas and the central state of Michoacan.

It also warns against nonessential travel in parts of eight other states, significantly expanding the scope of an alert issued in September.

“There’s pretty much no state that hasn’t been touched by this. … We’ve seen some major, high-value cartel targets that have been taken down by the Mexican government, but that doesn’t appear to have quelled a lot of the violence,” said Fred Burton, vice president of the Stratfor global intelligence agency. “We see no short-term end in sight.”

The State Department notes that millions of U.S.
