, a book by Chris Buckley is an inspiring book. It gives an insightful description of the various aspects of Tibetan Arts and Crafts, about which there is so little written.

From weavers, dyers, metalworkers and thangka painters to mask makers, sculptors and carpenters. We can appreciate Chris Buckley’s passion for Tibet not only in the beautiful images (both by the author and by Mimi Kuo), but also in the knowledgeable description of each craft. But is much more than a book about crafts. Sanur Village Festival 2011, once again hosted the performance of Grup Gedebong Goyang or G3. The group comprises of four expatriate women : Rucina Ballinger, Kerry Pendergrast, Suzan Kohlik and Antonella De Santis, but only three performed this time.

When I got to Istanbul, I was physically and mentally exhausted.  I had just had a very fun but very tiring week in Jordan, which came immediately after an exhilarating but exhausting week at WTM in London.  Planning those back to back wasn’t the brightest idea in the universe, and I had basically been going nonstop for the past 14 days straight.

I needed a break.

Fortunately, the timing couldn’t have been better.  Two of my travel blogger friends, Jodi of Legal Nomads and Wandering Earl, were in Istanbul and similarly exhausted.  Jodi

Transportation Secretary LaHood vowing that travel safety is not compromised by the shutdown.

A stalemate caused by partisan politicking has caused the partial shutdown of the Federal Aviation Administration, with the possibility that this will continue well into September. This has effectively stopped airport construction projects and will deprive federal coffers of the potential $1 billion or more in uncollected ticket taxes, after congress failed to reach a deal.

Travel and Tax Woes

The operating authority of the FAA expired on July 23, along with any authority of airlines to collect the estimated $30 million a day in ticket taxes.
