Holidaymakers wishing to escape the dark evenings of a UK January should consider taking flights to Tenerife in time for the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival.Taking place from January 14th until February 10th 2008, it is the island’s “most Brazilian carnival” according to Spain’s tourism website.Crowds of people flock to Tenerife each year to be a part of the atmosphere of the event, which takes place on the streets of Santa Cruz for a full fifteen days.”The climax comes on Carnival Tuesday with el Coso, a spectacular parade which will amaze everyone who sees it,” the website notes.Meanwhile, eTenerife describes the carnival as “second only to Rio”.Revellers are advised to take a hat, glasses and suncream in case the weather is very hot – while taking bottles of water is also encouraged for the same reason.Expect to see floats, costumes and dancing parades – and be sure to arrive in plenty of time or all the best vantage points will be taken.
